CORE Association has applied for .depot, a new domain extension designed to give online shopping, wholesale and business-to-business (B2B) services a clear and recognisable online identity.
Following ICANN’s Reveal Day on 7 October, we can now confirm that .depot is not in contention: no competing applications have been submitted with .depot as the primary string. This marks a further step in the application process, although approval remains subject to ICANN’s evaluation and procedures.
The extension will be open for registration, serving businesses, organisations and individuals whose activities involve physical or digital inventories. These include warehouse operators, online shopping platforms, distribution centres and digital repository creators.
The name “depot” connects physical places where goods are stored and distributed with online spaces where products, information and resources are organised and accessed. This makes it a natural fit for a range of uses, from local supply depots and wholesale storefronts to institutional data repositories and personal collections.
The .depot extension will bring these related activities into a dedicated domain space. It will offer businesses and other users a direct and intuitive way to represent their services, products and resources online, whether they operate a physical distribution site, a digital platform or both.
The Registry Operator will work with warehouse operators, e-commerce businesses, online shopping platforms, payment service providers and other stakeholders to develop a domain space that supports trusted online services, directories and hubs for physical and digital inventories.
The extension is intended to remain useful over time, with ongoing operations supported by competitive registration fees and a broad base of users across commerce, logistics and digital storage.
Once approved through ICANN’s process, .depot will offer a dedicated online space reflecting how goods and digital resources are stored, accessed and exchanged worldwide.
