By CORE Team
CORE Association applied for .src as a dedicated TLD for open source. See CORE’s application.
CORE submitted the .src application because an open source project’s domain name is a critical resource for its security, trust and funding. There is a need for a TLD that is designed and maintained accordingly.
CORE is pleased to see that Stichting NLnet identified the same need and submitted a community-based application for .src, specifically for the FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) community. See NLnet’s application.
CORE was unaware of NLnet’s .src project and announced its own .src application only shortly before Reveal Day.
As the terms of the 2026 new gTLD round prohibit communications between contending applicants, CORE unilaterally withdrew its .src application on Tuesday, October 13. ICANN processed and accepted the withdrawal on Wednesday, October 14.
