The latest issue of “The Domain Name Industry Brief” from Verisign shows that 351.5 million domain names were registered (across all top-level domains) during the second quarter of 2022. This represents only a modest increase of 1 million domain name registrations over the first quarter of 2022, but registrations have increased by 10.4 million, or 3.0%, year-over-year. Classic gTLDs are still leading the way: the .com and .net alone represented half of all registrations (or a combined total of 174.3 million domain names), while ccTLD accounted for 134.1 million registrations, a 2% increase year-over-year.
