Late September, after analyzing 12.3 million domain names, the Global Anti Scam Alliance reported that “8,3% of all websites are scams.”A strong increase, compared to 3% for the same study in 2021, leading to the conclusion that “you are almost three times more likely to come across an online scam” when surfing the Web.
A few days later, another study, from giant tech company Akamai, “flagged almost 79 million of newly registered domains as malicious in the first half of 2022.” “To put these numbers into context, every month we intercept 13 million domains that are created with malicious purposes that resolve or go somewhere”, said Stijn Tilborghs, a senior data scientist at Akamai. “This equates to 1 in 5 new domains being created for malicious purposes”, he added.
