Escrow.com, the world’s largest online escrow company, reported an important increase of domain names sold through its platform. From June 2021 to June 2022, sales reached a whopping $519 million, up by 85% in the last two years. For the first half of this year, secondary domain sales already represent more than a quarter billion dollars. Moreover, ”the average price of premium domain names has boomed”, the press release read, from about $17,000 in 2Q20 to $39,000 in 2Q21 and then to $50,000 for the first half of 2022. For the company, these impressive numbers confirm that domain names remain among the strongest virtual assets out there: “The real land of the metaverse is and has always been domain names, upon which websites, apps and great technology companies are built.”
