In a new milestone noticed by TorrentFreak, “Over the past several years, copyright holders have asked Google to remove URLs from four million unique domains.” The domains most flagged for infringement are 4shared.com and mp3toys.xyz, both sharing vast amounts of movies and music files, for which Google has already removed respectively 68 and 51 million URLs from its search results. Funnily, a few legitimate domain names, such as whitehouse.gov or vatican.va (The U.S. White House and The Vatican) are part of “the thousands of domain names that are not typical copyright infringers,” The movie database IMDB.com or Wikipedia.org are also frequently spotted. Still, “the bulk of all pirated content is centered around just a few hundred sites.”
