A “Web3 Domain Alliance” (W3DA) has just been created, with the mission “to promote the development of the blockchain naming ecosystem and the functioning of blockchain domain registries with and across blockchain-based and traditional Web applications.”
Although they are not actual TLDs, so-called “crypto-domains” are recorded on a blockchain, most often as unique NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens). More than 15 entities are currently proposing blockchain-based registration services, notably for crypto-related extensions such as .eth, .bitcoin or .web3.
